Thor Ragnarok – Film Review

Thor Ragnarok, released in October 2017, is one of the latest Marvel films. Some of the actors were: Cate Blanchett (Hela), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Chris Hemsworth (Thor) Taika Waititi (Korg) and of course Stan Lee in his usual cameo appearance. It has been rated: 8/10 by IDMB, 74% by Metacritic, 92% by Rotten Tomatoes and 93% of Google users liked this film. The director was Taika Waititi. The film is 2h and 10m long.

Plot

This is a comedy and an action packed film that kicks off with Thor and Loki meeting their father (Odin) who tells them that they have a sister who is called Hela, who is also the goddess of death. Thor then has a battle with Hela and only one is the victor. They then all go through the portal to Asgard and Hela pushes both Thor and Loki out into the world of Sakaar. Thor then has a massive battle, but it is a fight to the death. Thor then wakes up in a room and has to escape before the grandmaster catches him. Thor and Loki then team up with 2 mysterious characters and Korg, who is a very awkward rock monster when it comes to conversations, and they start a revolution!

Our Opinion

In our opinion this was a marvel-lous film; the best parts were the massive action scenes that put us on the edge of our seats. Overall, we would rate the film 4 and a half stars because it also had elements of comedy, as well as action. We also suggest you see the 2 other prequels before watching this (Thor and Thor: The Dark World). The reason why this film was not 5 stars, for us, was that they brought things in too suddenly, such as Thor now having  a sister.

Reviews from Students

  1. 4/5 – This was a great film. My favourite scene was the fight scene on the bridge and my favourite character was Thor.
  2. 5/5 – My favourite part of the film was where Korg accidentally steps on Miek. My favourite character was Korg!
  3. 2/5 – This is a misleading title because Ragnarok is when the gods die in Norse mythology but I suppose it was not too bad of a film.
  4. It was so good I even bought the book!
